This residential garden transformation was designed to create a bright, contemporary outdoor living space centred around an established garden pond.
The homeowners wanted to replace an ageing stone patio and overgrown planting with a more practical, visually balanced design. Rather than treating the pond as a separate feature, the new layout needed to establish it as the defining focal point of the garden.
The brief called for an inviting outdoor environment that combined premium aesthetics with straightforward maintenance. The homeowners wanted the natural character of timber without the regular painting, staining or sealing associated with traditional wooden decking and fencing.
Privacy was another important consideration, but the new boundary treatment could not make the garden feel dark or enclosed. The design therefore needed to combine effective screening with lighter colours, decorative detailing and carefully balanced materials.
By coordinating composite decking, Slatted composite fencing and aluminium screens, the project created a cohesive outdoor space with clearly defined areas for relaxing, planting and enjoying the pond.

Our Garden Design Proposal
NeoTimber® proposed a coordinated combination of composite decking, fencing and decorative aluminium screening to transform the dated patio into a contemporary pondside garden.
A total of 60 m² of Deluxe Hollow composite decking in Ash White was specified to create a bright platform around the pond. The decking was supported by a composite subframe, producing a coordinated system designed for dependable outdoor performance.
To frame the garden and improve privacy, 18 linear metres of Slatted composite fencing in Antique were incorporated around the boundary. The warmer fencing colour created an effective contrast with the light decking while introducing depth and natural character.
Aluminium Leaf Fence Screens completed the design. Integrated into selected fence panels, their decorative pattern added architectural interest and helped soften the appearance of the boundary.
Ash White Decking Around the Garden Pond
Ash White was selected as the principal decking colour because its light, neutral tone helped create a brighter and more spacious-looking garden. It also provided a clean visual contrast with the dark surface of the pond and the surrounding planting.
The decking established a consistent surface around the water feature, allowing the pond to become an integrated part of the outdoor living space rather than an isolated element within the garden.
Its reversible board design offers a choice of grooved and woodgrain finishes, while its capped composite construction provides enhanced resistance to fading and everyday staining.
Unlike traditional timber decking, the boards do not require routine painting, staining or sealing. This reduced-maintenance finish was particularly important around the pond, where the homeowners wanted to spend more time enjoying the garden and less time maintaining it.
Warm Antique Fencing for Privacy and Contrast
The Antique Slatted fencing introduced warmth and helped balance the cooler tones of the Ash White decking. Its two-tone colouring was designed to recreate the varied appearance of weathered timber while providing a more contemporary slatted profile.
The boards are formed as three-slat panels, producing the appearance of individually installed timber battens with greater visual consistency. Their tongue-and-groove construction allows the boards to stack securely, helping create a continuous and private garden boundary.
The capped composite surface provides improved protection against moisture, stains and UV exposure. It also eliminates the need for regular painting or sealing, supporting the low-maintenance objective of the wider garden design.
Using the darker Antique colour around the perimeter helped frame the lighter central deck and direct attention towards the pond, creating a clear visual hierarchy throughout the garden.
Decorative Aluminium Leaf Screens
NeoTimber® Leaf Fence Screens were incorporated into selected fencing panels to add a decorative architectural feature to the boundary.
Manufactured from marine-grade aluminium with a powder-coated finish, each screen is designed to replace the upper two boards within a NeoTimber® fence panel. Colour-matched fixing channels provide a clean and coordinated installation.
The botanical pattern reinforced the garden setting and provided an attractive transition between the composite fencing and surrounding planting. Its open detailing also introduced glimpses of light through the upper sections of the boundary.
Combining solid composite boards with decorative metal screens prevented the 18-metre fence line from appearing overly uniform while maintaining a cohesive overall design.
A Coordinated, Low-Maintenance Garden
Using complementary products across the deck, boundary and decorative features allowed the homeowners to create a consistent design rather than treating each element as a separate installation.
The decking also provided the versatility needed to box in parts of the pond structure and construct integrated planters. This helped connect functional elements to the wider design and reduced the number of unrelated materials visible within the finished garden.
The contrast between Ash White and Antique established a balanced colour palette: light decking opened the central area, while warmer fencing gave the perimeter definition and depth. Aluminium Leaf Screens then introduced a third material without disrupting the coordinated appearance.
The result is a practical outdoor living space that feels brighter, calmer and more considered, with the pond positioned firmly at the heart of the design.

The completed project replaced a dated patio and overgrown garden with a contemporary pondside space designed for relaxing, entertaining and everyday enjoyment.
Across 60 m², the Ash White composite decking provides a clean platform that highlights the pond and planting. The 18-metre Antique fence line creates privacy and contrast, while the aluminium Leaf Screens add character and decorative detail.
