A NeoTimber® guide to specifying office composite decking.
The modern office looks different to what it did twenty, thirty years ago. Gone are the dark, endless corridors, replaced instead by light, airy units with natural light and fresh decor. The outside environment has changed too. No more cold, drafty smoking shelter, space outside on timber decking has been allocated to allow access to fresh air and social interaction, encouraging greater collaboration and an overall more welcoming space for staff.
The home office has also changed in the last few years. Once, a home office consisted of a PC perched on a tiny impractical table, with a strategically placed bar which caught your shin every time you pulled in too close. Now many ‘work-from-homers’ are opting for a light, state-of-the-art garden office with views of trees, sky and full of inspiration.
Here at NeoTimber®, we have supplied a wide range of commercial applications and office composite decking areas and have seen first-hand how their decking installation has transformed their ways of working.
Contemporary Looking
Composite decking offers a clean, modern refresh to an old concept of decking. Its’ crisp lines and modern designs give a real upgrade to your outdoor breakout space, providing the perfect space for meetings, dining, hot desking and social time within the corporate environment.
When it comes to office decking, there’s an old saying, “look good, feel good.’ This doesn’t only apply to personal appearance. If we work in a space which is light, fresh and modern we stay inspired, work harder and are more productive with our output. This applies just as much in our home office as in our traditional breakout space.
Long-Life
NeoTimber® have been supplying commercial decking solutions for many years and have seen how our products are able to withstand the test of time. Designed to be robust enough to handle anything the British weather can throw them; our composite deck boards are made to last. Supplied with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty, we are confident in the quality of our product development.
Long-life means your boards will not fade or age but will look good throughout their lifespan. Installing decking by NeoTimber® is an investment into creating a design that has real longevity, so you don’t have to worry about replacing damaged boards or constant maintenance and focus instead on the management and success of your business.
Low Maintenance
Time consuming, labour intensive office decking maintenance is not necessary, save for the occasional hose down. Engineered from a wood polymer plastic composite, our decking does not crack, warp, bend, bow or snap. The plastic element within the composite deck boards gives them extra flexibility, protecting boards against mould growth, algae, rotting and erosion.
Because of our low maintenance decking design, this means no downtime from having to paint, seal or varnish the boards, and no back breaking sanding or stripping of the deck every five years or so. This saves money, reducing maintenance costs for your department and your company.
Fire Safety
Whilst it is true that no office composite decking is completely fireproof, health and safety is obviously not something that developers should be compromising on. Our composite decking has been methodically tested to achieve a Class-C fire rating. This makes it suitable for low rise developments, meaning it can be used in buildings up to three stories high. A balcony or a roof terrace for a low-rise office block would therefore be perfect for an outdoor space or smoking area.
Though timber is still a popular choice for many decking projects, it is in fact rated D for fire safety. It is important for you to do your due diligence when deciding what kind of decking would be best used for your office. We believe it is important to be completely transparent about the strict guidelines of our fire safety classification, so you as a business owner can have clear peace of mind.
