Concrete fence posts can provide the support for your composite fencing, by using our concrete post inserts.

Is it possible to use composite fencing with concrete posts? The short answer is, thankfully, yes. One of the main benefits of using concrete posts is their structural longevity, so it can seem counter-productive to replace them entirely if you are looking to refresh and rejuvenate your existing garden fencing.

Because we are aware of most homeowners already having some kind of legacy fencing, NeoTimber’s composite fencing is designed to be as customisable as possible, with its modular, component-based system, allowing you to adapt your concrete posts to work in tandem with our individual composite fence slats. In this article, we will outline the details of this process, to show you how easily our composite fencing panels can be fitted between existing concrete posts.

Modular Components For NeoTimber® Composite Fencing

Whilst the standard timber boards that fit between concrete posts normally come as a completed pre-built panel, NeoTimber’s fencing panels come supplied as individual components. Initially this may come across as less convenient, but completed panels are harder to customise, whereas by building your fencing piece-by-piece fundamentally means that you can personalise your garden perimeter to your individual standards.

The tongue-and-groove nature of our individual slats allows you to personally determine the height of your fencing to at least 1.8m in height. This means even though you are keeping your original concrete posts, you are afforded a more customisable fencing solution with the panel between it. If you want your fencing to be more decorative, you can replace the top two boards with one of marine grade aluminium fence screens, choosing from one of four cut out designs.

Introducing NeoTimber® Concrete Fence Post Inserts

Once your pre-existing panels are removed, to fix composite fencing to concrete posts, you start by laying our concrete post inserts against the surface of the concrete posts. This acts as a channel for you to stack your composite boards into position, with the fence board capping rail holding them all into place, using the same principles as you would if using our composite fence post alternative. Like our decorative fence screens, these post inserts are made from a marine grade aluminium, and are powder coated to match the tone of your chosen fencing board colour.

Are our fencing boards too long for your legacy fencing? Not to worry; your composite boards can be cut down to size should they not fit between the distance of existing concrete posts, using tools designed for timber, though we would recommend using a circular saw for the cleanest, straightest cut.

The Advantages Of Retrofitting Composite Fencing With Concrete Fence Posts

Retrofitting your existing fencing is an especially clever idea if your panels have been fitted onto a hard ground surface, as this can be more difficult to remove and replace. Additionally, choosing to use your existing fencing means your garden rejuvenation project is less wasteful, instead making use of what you already have, and saving you money for the long term.

Replacing either a timber or concrete panel also has a visual advantage. Timber, though an attractive material, is susceptible to the effects of moisture, and can eventually decompose if not effectively treated with sealants and preservatives. The opposite problem is true of concrete; it is undoubtedly a long-lasting material but can appear drab and uninteresting. By replacing these panels with composite material, you can retain the longevity and structural support whilst keeping your fencing still looking naturalistic, modern and low-maintenance.
