Will plastic composite fencing really last for the long term?

As a relatively new garden landscaping material, it’s very common to have questions about plastic composite fencing. What does it look and feel like once it has been installed? Is it available in different colours? Most importantly, is it long-lasting? NeoTimber’s range of composite plastic fence panels are designed to withstand all sorts of external pressures, including high winds and other kinds of weathering, such as fading. In this article, we will highlight 5 reasons why our plastic composite fencing is built to last, so you can have a more confident knowledge of the material before purchasing. Let’s take a look…

1. A Secure Framework

Beneath the plastic composite fence exterior shell is a metal framework, which keeps the completed fencing structure firmly rooted into position. We have designed post supports for hard and soft ground applications, both of which fix the fencing posts into place with bolts. This prevents the fencing from uprooting, which can be a problem with other kinds of fencing materials, such as traditional timber.

Even the sections of the plastic composite fence panels that are made completely from composite material, such as the composite fence slats themselves, are supported and held in place with metal capping rails, to keep them from rattling in the wind or just becoming loose in general.

2. Capped Composite Material

All of our plastic composite fencing is made from capped composite material. This means that the composite core is protected with an additional layer of plastic, protecting the material beneath it. There are many advantages to specifying NeoTimber’s capped composite material, as opposed to the first generation traditional composite some other suppliers use. Capped composite is more long-lasting, and is resistant to mould or mildew growth, which can affect earlier composite materials.

The capped surface of our composite plastic fence panels also helps the long-term aesthetics. Our capped material is imbued with UV inhibitors, which prevent the material from fading so that your fencing keeps its high-quality colour for longer. It also has the bonus of being easier to clean, needing only a simple hose down, or sponging with hot, soapy water, whilst locking out the damaging effects of retained moisture.

3. An Unbeatable Warranty

The problem with many traditional fencing materials is that they are not truly built to last. Plastic can become bleached and brittle and can snap and crack. Timber, unless properly treated with preservatives, can slowly decompose and rot, and can break apart entirely. In contrast, this kind of long-term damage will not affect our strong composite material.

Because we are so confident in the longevity of our plastic composite fence solutions, we have supported it with a 25-year residential warranty, or a 10-year commercial warranty, depending on your project. Click here to explore the limits and exclusions of the warranty.

4. Retrofit, Rejuventate, Refresh

NeoTimber’s component-based plastic composite fence panels mean that you can change and customise your panels to your specific design needs. It is available in 2 textures, (a Deluxe, reversible woodgrain or a Slatted design), 5 different colours (antique, teak, charcoal, chocolate, and grey), with optional extras like our metal decorative screens (including our linear, geometric, leaf, and contemporary cut-outs). This component-based system has big advantages beyond simple aesthetics, however. For example, with our wood or concrete post inserts, you can fit our plastic composite fencing panels between pre-existing fencing structures.

The inserts work in the same way as the channel of our composite and metal gate posts, providing a space to easily stack the capping rails and fence panels on top of one another. By retrofitting plastic composite fencing panels, you breathe new life into your existing fencing investments and make them last for longer. Our composite fencing panels can also be cut down to size, just like traditional timber, should the distance of your existing posts be shorter than 1.8m.

5. Incredible Durability

Unlike timber, plastic composite fencing is incredibly durable. Timber panels can absorb water, which can lead to warping, rotting, and splintering. So why do people still specify timber fencing? One reason is the look and feel of natural timber, which is undeniably attractive. Though there are many other durable fencing alternatives, such as concrete, these often leave a lot to be desired in the looks department.

With NeoTimber’s plastic composite fencing, you can ensure your fencing has both visual appeal and longevity. Composite is made from a mixture of recycled plastic fibres and timber, helping the material to retain the natural aesthetic of timber, with the additional bonus qualities of plastic, such as long-term strength. The aforementioned capped composite surface of our boards and posts protects this strong, reliable material even further.

There are many reasons that plastic composite fencing will last for the long term. Firstly, the metal framework and post supports underneath the composite fence posts and composite fence slats ensure that the fence panels cannot be uprooted in high winds or other extreme weather. All of our composite material is made with capped technology, which helps to protect the surface of the material against mould and fading. Finally, we back up all of our fencing with an unbeatable warranty.
