Composite Decking Price Guide: Costs per m² and Quotes

Work Out Your Decking Budget Before Comparing Board Prices

The composite decking price you see online may describe one board, a square metre of boards or a selected materials package. None automatically represents the cost of a finished deck. To budget accurately, establish what each figure includes before comparing products or quotations.

This guide explains the cost of composite deck boards, how to compare area prices and what belongs in a complete composite decking quote. Browse our decking page for wider project advice, or check the composite decking range for current product prices.

How Much Is Composite Decking?

Your total composite decking cost depends on the board range, deck size, supporting frame, groundwork, layout and labour. Access, delivery and finishing details also matter. Two decks of the same area can have different costs if one needs a raised structure or complicated steps.

Start by separating three levels of pricing:

  • Board-only cost: the deck boards required, including the cutting allowance.
  • Complete materials cost: boards plus the specified subframe, supports, fixings and finishing products.
  • Installed project cost: materials plus preparation, labour, delivery, waste removal and other agreed work.

Use live product prices for your selected range and colour. Promotional prices and variants can change, so confirm the final selection and VAT basis when comparing suppliers.

Measure the Deck and Plan Your Cuts

Draw the proposed area and mark doorways, drains, steps and borders. For a rectangular deck, multiply length by width to calculate the area in square metres. For an irregular layout, split it into measurable sections.

A 5m × 4m rectangle has an area of 20m². That does not mean buying exactly 20m² of nominal board coverage will complete the job: full-board quantities, cuts, joints and the selected laying pattern affect the order.

Plan the cutting allowance around the actual board lengths and layout. Diagonal patterns and picture-frame borders can generate different quantities from straight runs. Avoid adding a generic percentage without checking whether the calculator or quotation already includes waste.

Understanding Composite Decking Price per m2

A composite decking price per m2 makes different board products easier to compare, provided the figures use the same basis. “m²” and “square metre” mean the same unit: a composite decking price per square metre is not a different type of price.

Check whether a published area figure uses the board's physical dimensions or the installed coverage including the specified side gap. Confirm whether waste and accessories are excluded. Different widths or profiles can make a low per-board price misleading.

For a nominal board-only comparison: divide the board price by its length in metres multiplied by its width in metres. For ordering, use the actual layout and specified spacing rather than relying on nominal area alone.

Illustrative calculation: a hypothetical board costing £30 and measuring 3.6m × 0.15m has a nominal face area of 0.54m². Its nominal board-only cost is £30 ÷ 0.54 = approximately £55.56/m², before cuts, waste or other components. These are example figures, not a NeoTimber® product price or specification.

Price of Composite Decking per Square Foot

To compare the price of composite decking per square foot, convert an equivalent area price using 1m² ≈ 10.764 square feet. Keep all inclusions unchanged: converting units does not turn a board-only figure into an installed price.

  • £/m² to £/sq ft: divide by 10.764.
  • £/sq ft to £/m²: multiply by 10.764.
Illustrative unit conversions only; these are not current product prices or installed quotations.
Example price per m² Equivalent price per sq ft
£40.00 £3.72
£60.00 £5.57
£80.00 £7.43

Choose the Board Against Its Specification

NeoTimber's current range includes Classic and Deluxe options with different profiles and finishes. Capped and uncapped describe surface construction, while hollow and solid describe the core. Compare these choices against the intended use, care requirements and appearance.

Our composite decking types guide explains the distinctions. Compare samples before paying extra for a finish you have only seen on screen. The lowest purchase price and the best fit for your project are separate questions.

What Should a Composite Decking Quote Include?

Ask for an itemised quotation with clear quantities, product names and exclusions. Establish whether it is for supply only or installation as well.

  • Boards: range, colour, profile, quantities and cutting allowance.
  • Structure: joists, supports, foundations and any required connections or bracing.
  • Fixings: compatible clips, screws and associated components.
  • Finishes: fascia, trims, edge boards, borders and steps.
  • Site work: removal of old materials, ground preparation, drainage and labour.
  • Commercial terms: VAT, delivery, exclusions and quote validity.

Do not overlook the perimeter. Decking accessories and edging options affect both the finished appearance and materials bill.

Use a Calculator to Start Your Materials Estimate

The composite decking calculator helps you begin estimating selected materials. Review the inputs and included components, then check the result against a measured drawing.

Have an installer confirm the support layout and any features the estimate does not cover. A calculator does not assess ground conditions, validate the structure or automatically include every labour cost. Use the current installation guidance when finalising the specification.

Compare Upfront Cost With Ongoing Care

NeoTimber® composite decking avoids routine sanding, staining and oiling, but cleaning and inspection still take time and may involve supplies or paid help. The amount depends on the site, deck size, use and care instructions.

Composite decking illustrating ongoing care considerations when budgeting

For a composite versus timber comparison, include the care required by the actual timber specification. Avoid assuming every timber deck needs the same treatments, that all treatments are used together or that replacement occurs after a fixed number of years.

Review our maintenance guidance and warranty terms. A warranty period is not a promise that every installation will last for that duration without cost or care.

Composite Decking Price and Cost FAQs

Why do composite decking prices differ?

Board dimensions, profile, surface protection, finish and product specification can differ. Compare equivalent quantities and the complete installation requirements rather than the per-board price alone.

Does the composite decking price per m2 include installation?

Not necessarily. Read the description carefully. A board-only area figure normally excludes the frame, fixings, preparation and labour unless those items are explicitly included.

How do I estimate the cost of composite deck boards?

Prepare a cutting plan using the selected dimensions, spacing and layout. Multiply the full-board quantity by the applicable price and check VAT, variants and any waste already included.

Is a quote the same as a calculator estimate?

No. An estimate is a planning aid. Ask the supplier or installer to confirm the scope, quantities, exclusions, validity and price of the actual work or materials being offered.

Can I reduce the cost without choosing the cheapest boards?

A simpler layout, well-planned cuts and fewer complicated borders can reduce materials or labour. Keep the specified supports and fixings: reducing required structural components is not a sound saving.

What should I send when requesting a quote?

Send measurements, photographs, preferred range and colour, proposed board direction, access details and any steps or raised areas. Explain whether you need materials only or a complete installation quotation.
