What are the advantages to choosing composite wood fencing, with so many alternatives available?
Why should you choose composite wood fencing over the other fencing alternatives already on the market? Whilst timber and concrete both have their advantages, there are downsides to both materials that could cause you to have second thoughts once your fencing is installed, including timber’s relatively short lifespan to concrete’s lack of visual flair. In this article, we will outline the many advantages of composite wood fencing, and why it remains the most practical solution for your garden space. Let’s take a look.
Composite Wood Fencing Is Easily Customisable
The modular nature of NeoTimber® composite wood fencing products means that it is easy to customise to your design standards, as opposed to timber or concrete alternatives, which normally come as completed panels. For projects where the composite wood fence cost is extra important, composite wood fence boards can be adapted to fit pre-existing timber or concrete posts using our inserts, and can be installed onto both soft and hard ground applications. The hard ground installation set allows you to drill your fencing panels securely into place, whereas the soft ground set is designed to be concreted into the earth, with both options ensuring the structural integrity of your completed fencing.
The concrete and timber post inserts are designed to be drilled against the surface of your existing fence posts. These inserts then act as channel in the same way as the standard composite fence posts, meaning you can stack the capping rails and tongue-and-groove boards seamlessly into place. If your boards do not fit between your existing timber or concrete posts, don’t fret; NeoTimber’s composite wood screening can be cut down to size just like normal timber boards. If you need to trim the length of your capping rails, you will need to use more specialised metal cutting tools.
A Range Of Modern Colours
Put the paintbrush, paint, and varnish away; with a composite wood fence, painting your panels becomes a thing of the past. No longer do you have to laboriously spend time making sure your paint is evenly distributed across the surface of your wood fence panels, and that no drips or runs fall down the cracks onto your neighbour’s side of the border. Instead, our composite wood fencing is available in 5 gorgeous colours, allowing you to create a stylish garden backdrop with ease.
The 5 colour options provide you with the opportunity to create a fencing system perfectly matched with the design aesthetics of the rest of your garden project. For example, if you want your fencing to appear more naturalistic, like traditional timber, you may want to consider our teak or chocolate options, as these appear the most realistic. If you want to pivot away from this style however, the grey and antique tones give you a more neutral, understated effect, whilst the sumptuous dark black of our charcoal creates a bold, striking outdoor vision.
Decorative Screen Options
Because our composite wood fence system comes supplied in individual components, you have the choice of adorning the top of your panel with one of our metal decorative screens. Made from marine grade aluminium and perfectly colour matched to your composite fence slats and composite fence posts, our screens help to create an eye-catching, modern addition to your outdoor space, and easily slot into place with our screen inserts that fit within the channel of our composite posts.
We have 4 designs for you to choose from, including the modern art inspired Contemporary, the dizzying kaleidoscopic Geometric, as well as the nature themed Leaf design and neat, parallel Linear. Each of these options give your fencing a distinct, individual identity, and are built to last. At NeoTimber®, we champion both form and function – as well as looking good, our screens allow for more light and airflow to enter your garden space.
A Lower Maintenance Option
Protecting a traditional timber panel requires time consuming painting and treating, using chemical preservatives. Unless this is done annually, a timber fence can quickly succumb to the effects of weathering, with mould and mildew growing on the surface of the panels. In contrast, with composite wood fence panels, the additional protective polymer layer helps to keep out moisture, meaning mould is incredibly unlikely.
Should your fencing need a spruce up though, don’t worry; the capped surface of our individual composite wood fence slats makes it extremely easy to clean, needing only a basic hose down every 6 months or so to keep your panel looking its best. Simply use a sponge and a bucket of warm soapy water, or a hose or pressure washer with a fan attachment, making sure you’re standing at least 300mm away from the surface of the panel and using no greater than 3100 PSI, to not damage the material.
