A Countryside Roof Terrace Deck – Leicestershire

Project Background

An elderly couple who were looking to expand the first floor of their living space outwards, they were seeking to create a decking area that made the most of a sun-trap terrace area that had exceptional views of the surrounding countryside. The couple were faced with the task of sourcing a solution that would sit directly onto an asphalt roof without the need to fix (and consequently pierce) its waterproof membrane.

The couple had previously had timber decking in their garden and had found it incredibly slippery once it had aged. They were therefore seeking a slip-resistant, more weather-resistant decking solution that, once installed, would not require treating or excessive maintenance.

Our Proposal

Upon consulting the NeoTimber® team, it was clear that the client required a system that would allow them to suspend their decking project off the asphalt roof without the need to fix the joists directly to the surface. NeoTimber’s fully adjustable pedestals were used hand-in-hand with a recycled plastic joist to securely fix the subframe in place. The adjustability of the pedestal made dealing with the slopping roof simple, while also allowing the subframe to be increased in height enough to seamlessly fit the clearance of the door sill.

The customer’s requirements for a low-maintenance, fade-resistant solution led us to put forward our capped decking range – the NeoTimber® Deluxe board. The product’s protective outer-shell was ideal for the south-facing terrace and provided that additional peace of mind.
