Composite Decking To Complement A New Extension
Project Background
This customer lives in a detached house built on a rise above nearby Barnsley, a short drive away from the picturesque Peak District. The house itself had not hadn’t seen many alterations since the builder laid down his trowel almost three decades ago. After 20 years of living in their home, the homeowners were ready to expand and renovate. With a south-facing garden, they wanted to fully exploit the aspect of their beautiful home.
Following the building of a full-width extension along the back, this customer was able to fully utilise the rear of the house for the first time, knocking the internal walls out to create a beautiful holistic kitchen/dining/lounge. Having dealt with the internal space, they naturally turned their eyes to the garden.
Previously, patio doors had led out to steep steps onto a modest stone patio. Given the sloping garden, the homeowner wanted a platform to bring the level up to align with their new anthracite bi-fold doors. It was for this reason that she considered a deck as opposed to a new flagstone patio. She had seen with her own brother’s garden how labour-intensive a timber deck can be and so looked for a viable decking alternative. Having investigated and having arrived at a dead end, the customer first discovered composite decking whilst browsing online.

Our Proposal
The client contacted a number of companies, including a global market leader and found they were either unimpressed with the overall quality of the product or the product colour options available. She also found that larger companies lacked a personal touch, felt her queries were not valued and that staff lacked product knowledge.
Having found our website easy to use, with clean and clear access to our pricing calculator and product details, our client requested a sample pack. The homeowners were impressed by our friendly staff and by their superior product knowledge. We recommended that they look at both the Advanced and Deluxe boards as these are capped to resist the elements and are more durable, as required.
The samples were received within a couple of days and they were immediately impressed…
“They came through the letterbox with a solid clunk, and I could tell instantly that these samples were better made. We simply loved the product; the woodgrain effect was of a high quality and the colour of the grey decking was an exact match to our anthracite doors and windows. We chose the Deluxe grey because it is a solid board“.
The installer of the product was also most impressed by the versatility of the clip system provided for fixing the boards. Fitting during a week when temperatures were unpredictable, the tolerances designed into the clip fixing system allowed him to alter each clip according to the expansion and contraction of the boards, ensuring even spacing.
Upon completion of the project, the client didn’t hold back when asked how they feel about their new deck.
“It sounds daft to say it, but it has honestly been life-changing! For twenty years we’ve been huddled in the front room away from the sunshine, with a sloping garden that wasn’t really fit for purpose.”
“Now we live at the back of the house, cooking, eating and watching TV in the extension. The decking is a further extension of that space and allows us even on cooler evenings to wring the last drops out of the day with a glass of something sparkling out on the deck.”
